It’s everywhere in today’s society. From kindergarteners to professionals – everyone is in touch with the English language in one way or another. In cities, it is essential to know and speak English fluently in order to lead a hassle-free life. English is fast becoming the primary medium of instruction in schools and colleges all over the country. As there is a huge demand for jobs in the IT sector and other corporate domains, knowledge of English and a solid hold over the language is a must for aspirants. Even if a job aspirant has excellent technical knowledge, he/she is often overlooked when their language skills, especially in English, are low. English is also connected to prestige in the society. English-speakers are still considered to be educated and smart, and are automatically given more respect. Although all of us love and respect our mother tongue, ignorance of English makes social and professional life extremely difficult in this day and age.
